Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to be taken on a wild ride through the world of horse racing! Today we’re taking a look at the hugely popular family film, “Racing Stripes”. Directed by Frederik Du Chau and produced by Andrew A. Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Lloyd Phillips, and Edward L. McDonnell, this 2005 marvel is certainly one for the ages.
The storyline revolves around a young female zebra named Stripes (voiced by Frankeweenie’s Hayden Panettiere) who dreams of being a racehorse. Her mother lived on a farm with former champion race horse Sir Trenton until she was accidentally left behind when the owner sold Sir Trenton. She wound up at the farm with other abandoned animals and married Nolan Walsh (Bruce Greenwood), an ex-racehorse trainer who finds her in his barn one day.
However, everyone knows zebras can’t be racehorses – at least everyone but Stripes! But with help from her friends including a goat named Goose (Joe Pantoliano), a pelican named Stork (David Spade), and Tucker (Dustin Hoffman), an old shetland pony who has become somewhat disillusioned with racing, Stripes sets out to chase her dreams – something many of us can relate to.
It’s not all smooth sailing from here as there are plenty of challenges along the way for Stripes as she sets out to prove that she can compete with horses in races. One particularly nasty rival comes in the form of Hot-to-Trot Donkey played by Mandy Moore. He’s convinced that zebras have no place in racing and will do anything to try and stop them. This creates an intense rivalry that keeps us on our toes throughout the movie – we never know what Hot-to-Trot will do next!
The plot is well thought out and engaging – it’s not just mindless action, but a heartfelt story with real stakes. As a viewer, you’ll be rooting for Stripes every step of the way. The film has an incredibly talented cast including Hayden Panettiere, Bruce Greenwood, Mandy Moore, Dustin Hoffman, Whoopi Goldberg, and Joe Pantoliano. The chemistry between the actors is electric and you can see that they all truly believe in the script.
One of the best things about “Racing Stripes” is that it’s a movie you can watch with your whole family – there’s something here for everyone. Children will love the exciting races and colorful animals while adults will appreciate the themes of chasing your dreams against all odds and never giving up.
